Telluride Visitor Guide
Telluride
A Place Like No Other
Welcome to our Telluride Visitor Guide! Below, you'll find our staff’s favorite picks for adventures in Telluride, all year round. Whether you’re visiting for the winter powder or the lush summer landscapes, we’ve got the insider’s scoop on what makes Telluride an unforgettable destination.
Telluride’s history is one of adventure and reinvention. First a summer home for the Ute Indians, it became a lively mining town in the 1870s, attracting fortune-seekers after silver and gold. When the railroad arrived in 1890, Telluride boomed—only to slow down when the silver market crashed in 1893.
Fast forward to the 1970s, when snow became the new treasure, transforming Telluride into the ski haven it is today. Among its quirky history is the Galloping Goose, a railbus that once braved mountain passes to deliver mail and supplies—and today, you’ll find The Galloping Goose free transportation for getting around town, a small yet memorable nod to the town’s resourceful history.
Telluride’s story is still being written, and we’re excited for you to experience the adventure, history, and warmth of this mountain town.
